The Story
Some parts of Canada don’t see much in the way of seasonal change between summer and winter. The nights edge cooler, the leaves shift color and begin to fall… suddenly, the snow comes and that’s the end of it – winter. However, other parts of the country produce spectacular autumn colors throughout September, October, and even into November. The Vancouver area doesn’t have the best fall season, but it does exist, and can be lovely to see when it’s not raining. I think this might be my favorite time to year to shoot both video and stills actually. When the leaves turn and the days grow shorter, I try to make a point of getting out there to shoot as much as possible. For this setup, I took the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro and a Tokina 11-16mm Cinema zoom lens out and shot some fall foliage near Burrard Inlet in Port Moody. I managed to get lucky a few times, with sun stars and falling leaves – great for the stock footage library, but the beauty alone in some of these shots was enough to make it a worthwhile shoot.
