A 6K RED Epic-W timelapse featuring a blood orange full moon traversing the night sky.
The Story
As is increasingly common during summers in the Okanagan, the summer I shot this footage had several out of control forest fires burning nearby, causing the rich orange appearance of the moon. It was the first time I could remember seeing the moon with this shade of deep orange – the smoke was awful all things told, but it made for a beautiful moon! Fortunately, I had brought my Sigma 150-600mm lens with me – mounting it on the RED Epic-W allowed me to really push the long focal lengths with the crop factor, making for some great stock footage. Having said that, any small gust of wind would cause the camera to bounce around considerably, as it was only mounted on a relatively small tripod and head; this made the 4K footage I shot largely unusable. I will definitely bring my Ronford Baker heavy duty sticks and a bigger head next time. Nonetheless, I managed to get a couple of good shots out of this setup. This is the second of two videos in this series.
This clip was shot in real-time, with the Clip Speed changed to 500% in post-production – the original shot is almost 9 minutes long.
