SLOW MOTION RED EPIC-W 6K ORBWEAVER SPIDERLINGS BABY SPIDERS MACRO STOCK FOOTAGE

Description

Slow motion 6K RED Epic-W macro footage, featuring a clutter of baby cross orbweaver spiders, or spiderlings, moving amongst a nest of webs.

The Story

These spiders appear to go by several names. Their species is Araneus diadematus, which is commonly called the European garden spider, cross orbweaver, diadem spider, orangie, cross spider, and crowned orb weaver. I stumbled upon them – almost walking right past them without noticing. My RED Epic-W was already setup for some macro shots, utilizing extension tubes and a Sigma 105mm macro stills lens, so I put it to use right away. However, using the extension tubes meant I couldn’t move the camera very much, as it would bounce around uncontrollably before settling enough to be useful again. The depth of field was very shallow with this setup too, so locking focus on these little cross orbweaver spiderlings proved difficult, but I managed to get a few shots that I felt were useful additions to the stock footage collection. This is the first of four videos in this series.
